Around the World Wide Web III

1. Hippie High

1 My adoptive siblings grew up in these era. My mother kept their clothes in the closet located in the other bedroom, one weekend when I was in freshmen high, I got bored so I raided said closet. I still remember the overwhelming smell of moth balls and old clothes like it was yesterday. it was a treasure throw for vintage lovers. My favorite piece was my brother’s brown belly bottoms. I went to a catholic private school that has a ridiculous uniform policy so I only got to wear them on the occasional “civilian” event and on weekends when I go out with friends. The hubs and I are renewing our wedding vows this year, I am now in wedding preparation mode. We didn’t have a big church wedding 10 years ago so this year in commemoration of that big event in our lives, we are throwing a huge party. It will be non-traditional, indie close friends and family type. I am so excited.

The bag that got away

*head desk* I cannot believe what an idiot I’ve been. Loeffler Randall’s Rider bag was on a ridiculous sale at Saks Off Fifth for about a week now and I found this perfect natural color that I wanted ever since I laid eyes on the style, I have no idea what the hell I was waiting for. I finally have the funds for it, all I have to do it add it to chart. The price of the bag is originally $525.00, Saks was selling it for $220!!! Now they are all sold. Last weekend I signed up on the LR’s website for a “surprise” in my inbox everyday. Today I got an e-mail saying some of their Riders are $200 off but it is not the color that I wanted. Powder Blue is not bad but it is not my first choice either. I’ve become this impulsive shopper to a undecisive one, I am not sure which is worse.

Help! Should I wait for another sale of the natural color or just settle with the blue? Will the natural be ever available at the price I wanted again? Or should I just give up and put the $$$ towards a more investment type priced bag?

The Mala Beads hunt

Last week when I attended Amber’s vinyasa flow II  class we did a little chanting. Not going to lie the whole thing was weird in the beginning a) because I am still a newbie and does not know what it would do for me b) I thought there was a religious aspect, and made me does not want to participate c) I really just wanted to get to the physical part already. But after she explained the purpose of it to the class and the actual chanting closed, it turned out to be fantastic!

Our chant mantra: SA TA NA MA which translates to birth, life, death, rebirth. After chanting 108 times, I felt so relaxed. I get the same feeling after a day spa or retail therapy. I also discovered that after that meditation I was able to do the harder pose. Amber also mentioned that this method also helps protect one’s mind. That over time it should help the practitioner to break habits, focus, clarity, memory, concentration and control of emotions. It all sounds very good to me. So now I am in search of really cool mala beads necklace to go with this practice.

Here are my choices:

More info about the chant:

  • SA TA NA MA is so primal that its impact on our psyche is like splitting an atom. The power of his mantra comes from the fact that it rearranges the subconscious mind at the most elementary level. It has the power to break habits and addictions because it accesses the level of the mind where habits are created. – Kundaliniyoga.org

2. This rare snapshot of the Romanov family

Rare photos taken by the last tsar himself – Nicholas II and colored by his third daughter Maria surfaced. Most photos are normal some creepy. All of them gave me an uneasy feeling yet I could not look away nor stop myself for viewing it a total of 5 times. I think it is because of the history of the family and intrigue.

Air France bought 20,000 copies of the latest print of Charlie Hebdo, it was their latest print after the 01/07 attack. The company bought it for any passengers who would like a copy.

The 16-page issue, compiled by the remaining Charlie Hebdo staff, has the newspaper’s usual controversial cartoons and provocative content. It includes illustrations from cartoonists killed in the attack, and a drawing of the Prophet Muhammad on the cover, which has angered some Muslims. – via Mashable

4. Slavik, the most fashionable homeless dude in Ukraine

$(KGrHqR,!joFCfIP)mmoBQsH5voypw~~60_57

Slavik is a 55 year old homeless gypsy discovered by photographer Yurko Dyachyshyn on the street of Lviv. Unlike other homeless gypsies, he appears to have different article of clothing everyday, and they are always fashionable. It was said that he gets his outfits from donation centers fro the homeless. he was never seen with bags or shopping carts full of bottles we normally see with a homeless person.

Here’s a snippet of the interview with Yurko found on his website

Slavik indeed has a sense of fashion. What does he think about fashion and style? What is his story?

Slavik is a freak, so he does not communicate adequately and his answers are not entirely clear. To all my questions about clothes and why he does it, he replies that things are vanity and that you can find lots of things in the trash. Slavik says that you should care about health and keep away from those who could ruin your peace of mind. Despite such indifferent answers, Slavik still has a sense of beauty, style and fashion and his suits are not random. It is not accidental that he changes them every day, adjusting them carefully to weather and season.

My attempts to learn the story of his life were vain. The excerpts of his story that I revealed are difficult to build in some sort of chronology. I did not try to influence or change your life. I was documenting another strange and unique personal story.

Often Slavik disappeared for long periods of time and, suddenly, reemerged again, asking where I had been.  He called me his friend and said that it was very scary to lose a friend.

For the last time I saw him in January of 2013. I hope he is well now and that one day he will suddenly appear behind my back saying: “Hey buddy, where’ve you been?”

5. How about this dog?

$(KGrHqR,!joFCfIP)mmoBQsH5voypw~~60_57

“All the bus drivers know her. She sits here just like a person does,” says one commuter about the dog, who often roams the aisles, sits in the seats, looks out the windows, and, of course, licks everything in sight. “She makes everybody happy,”

Several times, our dog Sumo roamed around the neighborhood and come back when he’s done sniffing and playing with the Chinese kids at the next block, freaked me out but I thought that was cool. But this Lab?! how awesome is that.

6. This bizarre convention for “Maskers”

$(KGrHqR,!joFCfIP)mmoBQsH5voypw~~60_57

Rubber Doll World Rendezvous is a convention for people who wears latex/ silicone body suits. This dude -a 70 year old resident here in orange County, CA named Robert, has been wearing his suit that he calls “Sherry” for 12 years now.

I am flabbergasted this news article is the same caliber as when I ready about Bronycon. my final opinion about this subject, as long as they are not harming anybody (and as long as my kids don’t see them) they can dress whoever or should I say whatever they want.

H&M Home, WHAT?!!!

So yesterday I just found out that H&M sells home décor and other accessories. I was baffled! When did this happen? I felt like I was living under a rock until I asked five people and share the same feeling as I was. Anyway I started browsing and bought a total of 4 items. All are going to be useful and not just because they are cute. The pillow for me, the storage jute bag for Gabe’s toys, the laundry canvas bag for Gavyn and without a doubt that Miguel will like the candle.
