Lately friends and family are getting engaged. It’s an exciting time! Lot’s of photos to share with us, I love it! The husband and I do not have a wow engagement story, we did everything unconventional so I don’t have that gushing and blushing that normal women experience, and I love that about us. We are at that age wherein we get invited to attend 2-5 weddings a year, and everyone of those I cannot look at the bride’s face when she walks down the aisle. I get really sappy especially when there’s tears of joy, I’ve had enough of my husbands snickering when that happens, so I do what I do— the jewelry *&%$ in me looks at the engagement ring and the flair of the bride’s gown and accessories. I look at the bride’s face when the actual ceremony is over or when they do their obligatory rounds to welcome the guests. This is not the only reason why I decided to write an article about engagement rings, yesterday I got a private message on Twitter from a girl named Callie she’s recently engaged, in fact 9 hours ago (from the time she sent me the message) so at first I’m like ummmm… ok congratulations, yes I typed exactly like that. I was confused and a little surprised. And then she said:
I need engagement ring suggestions, my boyfriend proposed but since I am a little bit of a control freak instead opening a ring box with a ring in front of me, he gave me his American Express and said, “If you say yes, pick out the ring you wanted”.
No B.S and straight to the point, I di it! So I told her, wow very romantic LOL. and she agreed to the LOL part. But hey she sounded very happy and thrilled, so I am right there with her. It was the strangest thing since, well, this is the first time a stranger asked my opinion about jewelry, so I decided to help her. Like those subscribed / members only shopping sites. I asked questions about her style and a little bit of everything. From that, these are the rings that I came up with. I actually had fun having this twitter conversation and scouring the internet and magazines for suggestions. I guess giving out advice like this is not too bad. The crazier/funnier/weirder you are the more I wanted to hear from you. If you want to chat my twitter handler is @thejeweljunkie1
1. “My favorite movie this month is the Great Gatsby, let’s start with that. Are you a Leo fan?”
2. “I don’t want a ridiculous size stone like Kim K’s. 1 ct. to 5 ct. is my max, oh and doesn’t need to be diamond center”
3. “I am indie all the way, can you tell with my story?”
4. “I am also in the mood for a minimalist style.”
5. “Or maybe something outrageous / unique”
6. “I don’t know, what do you think?”
7. “Something that does not look like an engagement ring.”
8. “Something for my sister to envy.”
9. “My favorite color is blue”
10. “Is there something lower than $2000 but with a perceived value due to its cuteness?”
To Callie,
You are crazy! I absolutely love our conversation. I hope you like one of the suggestions I have above and I hope you’ve made up your mind on what “mood” you are in when you pick out your ring. But seriously, pick whatever feels right. And may you and your fiancée have a great wedding and an even greater married life. Good luck with everything.
Love,
Patricia
