Elena Votsi

One of the many things I look for in a jewelry is the design (don’t we all), if price is not an issue and I could have anything I want at this moment, I would definitely pick Elena Votsi, the Athens School of Fine Arts graduated must have excelled in all her classes based on her designs. Her collection is something that will haunt my dreams. I’ve never wanted such jewelry before, they are unbelievable chic, modern and definitely a very good conversation piece.

Around the World Wide Web – I

Happy New year! Happy new feature. Since I prance around the internet everyday, I decided to start sharing some of the articles / photos I found, that fascinated me. AWWW or Around the World Wide Web

1. This adorable totally fair priced ring

FE1 With yoga in mind, I find this ring both unique and Namaste approved.

2. This Medici family necklace

FE1

Saw this on an article published on 2013 that featured Mellerio dits Meller jewellery house for the 400th year in business. They’ve been serving (mostly the European nobles/ royalty) since 1613, very impressive.

3. Post Mortem photogrpahy

FE1

Like I said the segment is called “around the web” Huffington Post and several other blogs (drawing a blank) posted an article last year (and I’ve been looking ever since) about how in the Victoria era getting oneself or family photograph is a once in a lifetime thing. They were being literal, one tradition is a memento mori, While photography was lesser in cost than the painted portrait it was still quite pricey. For most families they would hire a photographer to take photos of their newly deceased loved ones as a keepsake.

4. This photo taken in North Korea

FE1

The recent month’s hacking of Sony Exec’s e-mail made me curious about North Korea, I do not know anything about them besides the facts that they live in their own world. So I started reading up on North Korean facts and oh man I am glad I don’t live in North Korea in my mind, I already broke most of the laws they enforce there.

7. This amazing library

FE1

The Admont Abbey in Austria Even at this digital age, I still long to have my own private library, it will be my ultimate woman. Nothing beats the smell of both old and new books and to have that physical copy, the act of flipping the pages… yeah I am one of those.

8. A news articles about Coach buying Stuart Weitzman, NO!!!

FE1

I respect Coach as a company but not a fan of their designs, I am afraid that they’ll change the Stuart Weitzman designs and mirror it like their own.

A little DIY

It’s been  a while since I made a jewelry. I didn’t even realize how much I missed it until I decided I needed a chain for a Chanel medallion pendant I got online. I bought it as recycled fashion, the authentic pendant with a necklace chain but the chain does not match the pendant at all, I tried looking for a ready made chain but could not find the best one, so I decided for a DIY, nothing fancy, simple and basic, see material used below

1 – 17″ brass chain

1 – Brass Trigger clasp 1 – Open jump ring

1 – Flat nose pliers and curve tip nose pliers

I found these materials at www.houseofgems.com. Their prices are reasonable, they ship fast and hey they are located in Orange County, CA so just 1 day ship to me. I searched for the right color of chains and findings at the other local stores but couldn’t find exactly what I am looking for to make this chain.

They also have some really nice beads for my future DIY later.

Yoga pants fashion

Saks Fifth Avenue

Yesterday I did a full count of the many yoga pants I’ve purchased since I immersed myself in the wonderful practice of Yoga. Sure I still couldn’t pronounce nor remember properly the Sanskrit terms for the poses but really it’s the execution that really matter right? Anyway, I counted 12 and I think, I may have some more in the depths of my closet but whatever! I want more!!!. They are so comfortably awesome. I wear them at work without looking like I am ready to do a dancer’s pose anytime. With the right accessories and a little bit of attitude people might not even notice it. I also use it on Saturday and Sunday mornings errand with the children before attending an afternoon class.

Sample Yoga pants #OOTD: @work today- dated: 12/11/14

Leggings and knee high boots are my absolute staple pieces during the winter season. It is the one thing I can wear 5 days a week, so really the excessive purchase of yoga pants is not an excess at all since a. I use and need it for yoga b. it is an excellent alternative to the boring cotton material leggings c. I you don’t know yet, I have a penchant for psychedelic-ish and print design on pants c. duh! multi-use anywhere – studio, work, lounging, lazy days.

Jewelry Review: Gorjana, Ashiana London, Urban Gem

IMG_1119

For my first ever Rocksbox, I received 3 wonderful pieces from great designers.

Gorjana’s Elea Cuff

Urban Gem’s Victoria Necklace

Ashiana London’s Two Stone Drop Earrings in Aqua & Grey

IMG_1117

Gorjana’s Elea Cuff is definitely my favorite out of all the 3 pieces. It incorporates very well with my favorite Vanessa Mooney Unearthly Cuff and other gold pieces. The simple linear X design and wire concept is something so simple yet so timeless. If one decides to buy it, I think it will be money well spent, while it is not pure gold, the quality of plating will go a long way. Their plating looks like one of those that will probably last years with proper care.

IMG_1092

Urban Gem’s Victoria Necklace reminds me greatly of J-Crew’s statement pieces. It is well crafted and absolutely pretty. It was made with metal with bronze tone. It had that glitzy and vintage look that is a perfect match to any plain tees.

IMG_1140

Ashiana London’s Two tone earrings is pretty but not really my style. I am not a fan of the earring hook wire. It drags the skin on my earlobes. But design wise the aqua and grey stone combination is really nice. They complimented my skin tone. The stones are not heavy so it doesn’t pull down on the earlobes that much. quality is good and the cut and size of the stone are perfect for dangling earrings.

Ask the Jewel Junkie: Engagement Ring Suggestions

Lately friends and family are getting engaged. It’s an exciting time! Lot’s of photos to share with us, I love it!  The husband and I do not have a wow engagement story, we did everything unconventional so I don’t have that gushing and blushing that normal women experience, and I love that about us. We are at that age wherein we get invited to attend 2-5 weddings a year, and everyone of those I cannot look at the bride’s face when she walks down the aisle. I get really sappy especially when there’s tears of joy, I’ve had enough of my husbands snickering when that happens, so I do what I do— the jewelry *&%$ in me looks at the engagement ring and the flair of the bride’s gown and accessories. I look at the bride’s face when the actual ceremony is over or when they do their obligatory rounds to welcome the guests. This is not the only reason why I decided to write an article about engagement rings,  yesterday I got a private message on Twitter from a girl named Callie she’s recently engaged, in fact 9 hours ago (from the time she sent me the message) so at first I’m like ummmm… ok congratulations, yes I typed exactly like that. I was confused and a little surprised. And then she said:

I need engagement ring suggestions, my boyfriend proposed but since I am a little bit of a control freak instead opening a ring box with a ring in front of me, he gave me his American Express and said, “If you say yes, pick out the ring you wanted”.

No B.S and straight to the point, I di it! So I told her, wow very romantic LOL. and she agreed to the LOL part. But hey she sounded very happy and thrilled, so I am right there with her. It was the strangest thing since, well, this is the first time a stranger asked my opinion about jewelry, so I decided to help her. Like those subscribed / members only shopping sites. I asked questions about her style and a little bit of everything. From that, these are the rings that I came up with. I actually had fun having this twitter conversation and scouring the internet and magazines for suggestions. I guess giving out advice like this is not too bad. The crazier/funnier/weirder you are the more I wanted to hear from you. If you want to chat my twitter handler is @thejeweljunkie1

To Callie,

You are crazy! I absolutely love our conversation. I hope you like one of the suggestions I have above and I hope you’ve made up your mind on what “mood” you are in when you pick out your ring. But seriously, pick whatever feels right. And may you and your fiancée have a great wedding and an even greater married life. Good luck with everything.

Love,

Patricia
